RCD Espanyol Mobile

Following the path previously established with Celta Mobile, RCD Espanyol de Barcelona launched RCDE Mobile as a new business line, with Plus Sports responsible for the design and management of the project. The initiative responded to the growing need for football clubs to diversify revenue streams and activate proprietary assets in an environment marked by a sharp decline in traditional income during the pandemic.

The Spanish telecommunications market was characterized by low customer loyalty, creating a structural challenge for operators. At the same time, the telecommunications category had very limited presence in LaLiga club sponsorship portfolios, except for top-tier clubs. This situation left many clubs with significant untapped commercial potential.

However, clubs such as RCD Espanyol stood out for the historical loyalty of their fan base, particularly during periods of sporting and economic difficulty. This stable and emotionally driven relationship became a high-value strategic asset. Plus Sports identified this opportunity and designed, together with the telecommunications operator and the club, a sponsorship and monetization model capable of generating recurring revenue while activating fan engagement.

RCDE Mobile was positioned as a sustainable monetization tool, aligned with the club’s values and capable of delivering real benefits to supporters, strengthening their sense of belonging. In a context of limited income due to the absence of fans in stadiums, the project provided an innovative solution to ensure continuous revenue flows.

As the oldest football club in Barcelona, with professional, responsible, and forward-thinking management, RCD Espanyol demonstrated through RCDE Mobile its ability to develop strategic initiatives that strengthened its brand and its relationship with supporters, consolidating a model replicable across the broader sports ecosystem.
